Today’s my 50th birthday.
Now…
To be clear, I’m typing this at 11:32am CT on Friday, April 12th, 2024—a month and ten days BEFORE my birthday.
I have been HAMMERING Deep Work to get WAY AHEAD on content so I can Focus my Energy on our next big Heroic WIN.
I’ve put in 7+ hours of Deep Work every day for the last four days and I plan to hammer another 7 today. I’ve had ZERO tech inputs since Sunday and my brain is clear, focused, and ON.
Fun fact: My Oura Readiness score is 95 today and my Sleep score is a 94. It’s always remarkable how much reducing tech inputs and dominating my protocol influences that data.
But…
That’s not what I want to talk about Today.
I want to talk about THIS quote from the final page of Alden Mills’s great book, Unstoppable Mindset.
This quote is LITERALLY the final words of the book. Right after he wraps up the book and encourages us to GO AFTER a goal we may not be sure we can accomplish, Alden drops this Mark Twain wisdom bomb…
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by ones you did. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore.”
Now…
I’ve read that quote dozens (if not hundreds!) of times.
I’ve always loved it.
But…
When I read it this time and DID THE MATH, I’m like…
“Holy shitake mushrooms! If I’m alive (memento mori!), I’m going to be SEVENTY years old in another twenty years!”

There’s something about turning FIFTY that has helped me go next-next-next level in appreciating just how precious this life is as I turn up the activation heat in that forge of life as I smile and recommit to enjoying the process of giving ALL I’ve got.
