#1701 Checklists

How’re Yours!?

I’m typing this at 11:32am CT on Thursday, February 22nd, 2024.

I’m in seat 3F on Southwest Flight #1956.

I’m heading to Norfolk, Virginia to spend some time with CAPT Dave Pollard and 50 of his top (Heroic!) leaders on the USS GEORGE HW BUSH—the U.S. aircraft carrier that helped defend Ukraine.

We’re minutes away from take off and I can see the captain and co-pilot in the cockpit.

You know what they’re doing?

They’re LITERALLY going through their final checklist.

You know what that makes me think about?

It makes me think about one of the slides in the presentation I’m going to give tomorrow.

Whenever I give a talk or lead a workshop, I ALWAYS walk through our seven objectives that integrate the ancient wisdom and modern science that form the backbone of our app and Coach program and, well, EVERYTHING we do with Heroic.

As you know if you’ve been following along, Objective II is all about how to Forge Antifragile Confidence such that you (literally!) get stronger with each obstacle you face.

In order to move past that being a nice bumper-sticker thing to say, we need to OPERATIONALIZE that inspiring idea.

In order to do THAT we need to know who we are when we are at our best and DO THAT when we feel our worst.

Then?

Then we Forge Antifragile Confidence and get as close to being invincible as we’re ever going to be—LITERALLY using the obstacles that used to break us as the very things that make us stronger.

You know how we do ALL that?

We channel the crew from the plane I’m on (I’m now 10,000 feet in the air!) and create a CHECKLIST for our lives.

Know this…

You would NEVER get on a plane with a crew who didn’t have and go through a checklist. Period.

Why?

Captain Obvious here…

BECAUSE THAT’S A GOOD WAY TO CRASH AND DIE.

So…

I ask…

Do YOU go through YOUR day without a checklist?

The wisest among us know who we are when we are at our best, then we make a checklist to remind ourselves of those simple behaviors that keep us dialed in, then we DOMINATE that checklist all day every day.

ESPECIALLY Today.
