#631 Your Golden Seeds

Take Them Out of the Packet and Plant Them!

Not too long ago, we talked about the Golden Buddha. In fact, as you may recall, we talked about him twice.

First, I thought it was just a wonderful metaphorical story. Monks create epic golden Buddha statue. Then they cover it with stucco so an invading army won’t see its value and destroy it. But, oops! Decades pass and no one remembers that the stucco-Buddha is really a golden-Buddha until one day its beauty is rediscovered, etc.

Then we learned that the Golden Buddha is REAL! All that stucco and oops actually happened. I still can’t believe that a 10-foot tall, 5-ton, $250 million statue was once stored under a tin roof. But, alas, it’s true.

Of course, the moral of the story: YOU ARE THAT GOLDEN STATUE!! Chip away at the stucco and let your let shine, will ya?!

Today we’re going to talk about another golden metaphor that’s equally real.

Rather than golden Buddhas, we’re going to talk about golden seeds.

Specifically, golden beet seeds.

But, first, some context.

As we’ve discussed, our backyard is now home to some Spartan training stuff—including a rope climb, a spear throw, a herculean hoist and some wall traverses. 💪

We live downtown and don’t have a ton of space back there, but basically every spot that isn’t occupied by some Spartan goodness is now dedicated to our little micro-farm. We have over 50 different varieties of greens and veggies planted (target 101!).

Which leads us to Today’s +1.

If you’re a gardener, this won’t be news to you, but (as a first-time micro-farmer) I’m still ASTONISHED (!!!) by the fact that you can take a bunch of seeds out of a packet, put them in the ground, add some water and sun and VOILA! Those seeds—which had been dormant for who knows how long in the packet—will suddenly spring to life.

That’s mindbogglingly awesome.

The life force within those seeds was dormant in the packet, and, again, BOOM! Put them in some soil, add some water and sunshine and they’re suddenly sprouting?

Everything about that is amazing.

a) The latent life force.
b) The fact that within that TINY little seed is the potentiality of what it can be.
c) How easily the life force comes to life (and how easily it is stifled).

So…

Mr. or Ms. Micro-Farmer of Your Life: Got any dormant seeds of infinite potential you need to plant?

Here’s to your sprouting!
