In our last +1, we talked about the fact that your taste buds are all shiny new every two weeks—which is good news if you’re addicted to overly-sugary stuff and worried about food tasting bland as you make a transition to Optimizing what you eat.
Today, we have another pop quiz.
Question: What do you think is the #1 rule of nutrition?
Answer: Well, as Dr. Gundry (Tony Robbins’s doctor and author of The Plant Paradox) puts it:
“RULE NUMBER 1: What You Stop Eating Has Far More Impact on Your Health Than What You Start Eating”
John Durant echoes this wisdom in The Paleo Manifesto:
“When you’re lost in the wild, eating a handful of unknown berries or a mysterious mushroom can kill you, but there’s nothing you can eat or drink that will dramatically or permanently improve your health. Poisons are real; the Fountain of Youth isn’t.
The same principle applies in the grocery store: what not to eat can be more important than what to eat. The single most important way for many people to quickly improve their health is to subtract unhealthy foods, not to add healthy foods. Eating broccoli does not ‘cancel out’ devouring three slices of pizza.”
That wisdom applies whether you’re Paleo or Vegan or Pegan or whatever it is you’re rocking these days.
I repeat: There aren’t any Fountains of Youth. But… There ARE poisons.
And, I repeat: You can’t eat enough brocolli to make up for that pizza. (Hate to break the news.)
And, most importantly, let’s repeat: “The single most important way for many people to quickly improve their health is to subtract unhealthy foods, not to add healthy foods.”
So, what’s the #1 thing you’re currently eating that you KNOW isn’t working for you? Would you benefit from getting rid of it? Today a good day to get that party started?
Here’s a trash can.
Let’s do this!
