#879 Lint on a Projector’s Lens

Got Any on Yours?

In our last couple +1s, we’ve been exploring the fact that everything is “empty” of meaning.

One more time: We bring our own consciousness to E V E R Y T H I N G and that influences what we see.

Pretty much all the great spiritual teachers talk about this. Today we’re going to chat about a couple modern takes on the ancient wisdom.

Wayne Dyer tells us: “If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

Byron Katie echoes that wisdom. In Loving What Is, she tells us: “As you inquire into issues and turn judgments around, you come to see that every perceived problem appearing ‘out there’ is really nothing more than a misperception within your own thinking.

Katie gives us a little metaphor to help us wrap our brains around that reality.

Here it is.

Imagine you’re in a movie theatre, about to start watching a movie.

The lights dim.

The movie starts.

And…

There’s this huge, weird thing on the screen.

What IS that?

Hmmm…

Now…

If you felt super-bold, you may consider walking up and trying to rub that weird thing off the screen. But you’d try to rub and rub and nothing would happen. The “thing” would stay there.

Why?

Because there was nothing on the screen.

The issue was with the PROJECTOR.

The lens had a little lint on it and THAT is what made the screen look weird.

Alas, so it is with life.

Those weird things showing up on the movie screens that are our lives?

That’s just lint on our projectors.

And that’s Today’s +1.

Let’s love what is a little more Today and, rather than try to fix things “out there,” start right at home with our own consciousness.

One more time: “If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.
