Excusitis.

Brian Tracy defines it as: Inflammation of the excuse-making gland. (Hah!)

He warns us that excusitis is a very serious disease. In fact, he tells us that it’s fatal to success.

Let’s take a quick peek at your excuse-making gland. Is it a little inflamed? 😃

Do you find yourself making excuses for why you can’t do the things you feel called to do? Whether that’s spending more time with your family or pursuing your creative dreams or getting a good night of sleep or …

As Brian puts it: “Here’s a simple way to test your excuses. Ask yourself: ‘Is there anyone, anywhere with my problem or limitation who has succeeded in spite of it?’

If the answer is ‘yes,’ you know that your excuse is not valid. It is not a legitimate reason for your failure to make progress. What one person has done, someone else can do as well.”

Marcus Aurelius echoed this wisdom two thousand years ago. He put it this way: “Because a thing is difficult for you, do not therefore suppose it beyond mortal power. On the contrary, if anything is possible and proper for a man to do, assume that it must fall within your own capacity.”
