1. What are Cookies
Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile phone) when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work more efficiently, as well as to provide information to the website owners and operators.
Types of technologies we use
In addition to cookies, we use other similar tracking technologies on the Services, including:
- Web beacons (also called pixel tags or clear GIFs) — tiny invisible images placed on web pages or in emails to detect whether you have visited a page or opened an email
- Local storage and similar client-side storage mechanisms — browser-based storage that persists data on your device beyond a single session
- Mobile device identifiers — unique advertising identifiers (such as the Identifier for Advertisers on iOS and Google Advertising ID on Android)
First-party vs. third-party cookies
First-party cookies are set by the website you are visiting (heroic.us). These cookies typically are used to remember your preferences, maintain your session, and personalize your experience.
Third-party cookies are set by domains other than the one you are visiting. These are often used for analytics, advertising, or social media integration. For example, a cookie set by Google Analytics or Meta Pixel is a third-party cookie.
2. How We Use Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies to enhance your experience, improve our Services, and support our business operations. Cookies fall into the following categories:
Essential or strictly necessary cookies
These cookies are required for the basic functionality of the Services. They enable core features such as:
- Maintaining your authenticated session and login information
- Remembering your authentication state across page loads
- Protecting against fraud and security threats
- Distributing traffic across our servers (load balancing)
These cookies cannot be disabled without breaking the Services. They do not require consent.
Performance and analytics cookies
These cookies help us understand how you use the Services and measure performance. They enable:
- Tracking which pages are visited most frequently and how users navigate the site
- Analyzing error messages and performance metrics
- Understanding user behavior patterns and identifying areas for improvement
We use these cookies to optimize the Services, debug issues, and make data-driven decisions about features and content.
Functional cookies
These cookies enhance your experience by remembering your preferences and settings, including:
- Your preferred language or regional settings
- Font size or accessibility preferences
- Items saved in your cart or favorites
- Custom settings you have configured in your account
Targeting and advertising cookies
These cookies are used to personalize advertising and measure the effectiveness of advertising campaigns. They enable:
- Showing you personalized advertisements based on your interests and browsing history
- Measuring campaign performance and return on advertising spend
- Retargeting you with ads across the web based on your prior visits to our Services
These cookies are generally set by our advertising partners and require your consent.
Social media cookies
If you use social media sharing features or interact with embedded social media content on the Services, social media platforms may set cookies to track:
- Your interaction with embedded social media widgets
- Whether you have shared content and with whom
- Your social media account details for integration purposes
3. Cookie Categories and Management
We organize our cookie and tracking technology usage by category rather than listing individual cookie names. This approach provides clearer transparency while maintaining operational flexibility as our vendors and tools evolve.
Consent management platform
We use a consent management platform (such as CookieScript or similar) to manage non-essential cookies and tracking technologies. This platform:
- Displays a cookie banner on the Services when you first visit
- Allows you to accept or reject non-essential cookies
- Honors your preferences across visits (subject to browser/cookie clearing)
- Suppresses non-essential tags when you opt out or trigger Global Privacy Control
Managing your preferences
You can manage your cookie preferences in the following ways:
- Click the “Cookie Settings” or “Cookie Preferences” link in the footer of the Services to open the preference center
- Adjust your selections for each category of non-essential cookies
- Re-visit the preference center at any time to update your choices
4. Specific Technologies
We use the following third-party services and tools on the Services. Each sets cookies or other tracking technologies in the specified categories:
Google Analytics (Performance/Analytics)
We use Google Analytics to track website traffic, user behavior, and performance metrics. Google Analytics uses first-party and third-party cookies to analyze how you use the Services.
Meta Pixel (Facebook Pixel)
We deploy the Meta Pixel (formerly Facebook Pixel) to track conversions, optimize advertising, and build audiences for retargeting campaigns on Meta platforms.
Google Ads Remarketing
We use Google Ads remarketing to show you relevant advertisements across Google’s network based on your prior visits to the Services.
YouTube Embeds
We embed YouTube videos on the Services. YouTube may set cookies to track your interactions with embedded videos and personalize recommendations.
LinkedIn Insight Tag
We deploy the LinkedIn Insight Tag to measure the effectiveness of LinkedIn advertising campaigns and track conversions from LinkedIn traffic.
Session replay tools
We may use session replay tools (such as Hotjar, FullStory, Clarity, or similar) to record how users interact with the Services. These tools help us improve user experience, identify friction points, and debug issues. Session replay tools use cookies to anonymously track user sessions (without capturing sensitive data like passwords).
Device fingerprinting
While we do not use device fingerprinting directly, our Marketing, Analytics, and Technology partners (eg. Google Analytics) may use device fingerprinting as part of the services they provide to Heroic.
Audience matching and identity resolution
Some of our advertising and analytics partners may associate website activity with identifiers such as your email address or name for the purpose of:
- Building and refining audience segments for targeted advertising
- Measuring campaign performance across multiple touchpoints
- Delivering consistent ad experiences across devices
5. Global Privacy Control (GPC)
Global Privacy Control (GPC) is a privacy signal that you can enable in your browser or on your device to indicate your preference not to have your personal information sold or shared. We honor GPC signals to the extent required by applicable law.
How GPC works
When you enable GPC in your browser:
- Your browser sends a GPC signal (via the Sec-GPC header) with each web request
- We detect this signal and suppress non-essential cookies via our consent management platform
- Third-party analytics and advertising tags are blocked unless you have given separate affirmative consent
Important GPC limitations
GPC operates at the browser or device level, not across devices. This means:
- Enabling GPC in Chrome on your computer does not affect tracking on your mobile phone
- If you switch browsers or use a private/incognito window without GPC enabled, the signal will not be sent
- You may need to enable GPC on each device and browser where you use the Services
Do Not Track (DNT)
We do not respond to “Do Not Track” (DNT) browser signals. Unlike GPC, DNT lacks a consistent legal standard and is not yet widely supported. We continue to monitor DNT adoption and will update our practices if it becomes a recognized standard.
6. Downstream Opt-Out Propagation
When you opt out of non-essential cookies through our preference center, we communicate your opt-out preference to our advertising and analytics partners. This prevents them from:
- Setting cookies or tracking pixels on your device via our Services
- Collecting and processing your browsing activity for personalization or retargeting
- Building audience segments that include your data
Note: Opting out with us does not affect cookies set by these vendors on other websites. You may also opt out directly with advertisers using industry opt-out tools (see Section 7).
7. How to Manage Cookies
Via our cookie preference center
Click the “Cookie Settings” link in the footer of the Services to access our cookie preference center. You can:
- Accept or reject each category of non-essential cookies
- See which specific vendors are involved in each category
- Update your preferences at any time
Via your browser settings
Most browsers allow you to control cookies through your settings or preferences. You can typically:
- View all cookies stored on your device
- Delete all cookies or clear your browsing cache
- Block cookies from specific domains or all third parties
- Enable or disable specific types of cookies
Be aware that blocking all cookies may impair the functionality of the Services and prevent you from using certain features.
Via industry opt-out tools
You can opt out of behavioral advertising from many advertising networks using these industry-standard tools:
- Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA): aboutads.info/choices
- Network Advertising Initiative (NAI): optout.networkadvertising.org
- European interactive Digital Advertising Alliance (EDAA): youronlinechoices.eu (for EU users)
Via mobile device settings
On mobile devices, you can adjust your ad preferences:
- iOS: Go to Settings > Privacy > Apple Advertising, or reset your IDFA (Identifier for Advertisers)
- Android: Go to Settings > Google > Manage your Google Account > Data & Privacy, and adjust ad personalization settings
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this policy. Your continued use of the Services after such updates constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy. We encourage you to review this policy periodically to stay informed about how we use cookies.
