#764 Turning Frowns Upside Down

One Bite at a Time

In our last +1, we talked about The Happiness Diet as we did some napkin math on the odds of getting depression based on whether you eat a SAD diet or a Happy Diet.

Recall: Research says you’re 60% (!) more likely to be depressed eating all that processed food and refined carbs and processed meats. Good news: Your 26% (!) less likely to be depressed if you eat a whole-food diet.

Napkin math says that you’re basically TWICE (1.6 vs. .74) as likely to be depressed on the SAD than you would on the happy diet.

Quick check in: Did you pause and reflect on that stat and then pause and reflect on what made it into your shopping cart and/or mouths? 🤓

The authors call the Standard American Diet (SAD) the “Modern American Diet” (MAD) and tell us that (get this!) our diets have changed more in the last 100 years than they did in the prior 100,000 years.

The result?

Well, we’re more SAD and MAD than ever.

And, ECHO, we’ve GOTTA KNOW that our standard modern diets are a HUGE reason we’re all suffering so much.

Today’s +1.

KNOW (!!!) that all that edible foodlike stuff we’re over consuming isn’t helping our Optimizing cause.

If you or someone you know is suffering from depression, read those stats again and then think about how you might be able to reduce your processed-food consumption a little more today while increasing your real, whole-food intake.

Let’s turn that frown upside down.

One bite at a time.
