The other day I celebrated the 9-month anniversary of my little bionic-arm-creating injury. I celebrated by doing 300 burpees.
Then, 6 days later, I celebrated the 9-month anniversary of the surgery. I celebrated by doing another 300 burpees.
Well, a few reasons.
With each burpee I reflected on a few themes: Gratitude + The Psychology of Possibility + Strength for 2.
First: I hammered out the 300 burpees as a statement of Gratitude—for the fact that I didn’t hurt myself worse; for my wife who took such great care of me, the surgeon (Dr. D!), my physical therapist (Dr. J!) and all the others who made my quick and full recovery possible.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. ← The mantra I chanted as I burpee-meditated on Gratitude.
I also did the burpees as an offering to the gods of The Psychology of Possibility. As we’ve discussed, my surgeon told me it would be 9 to 12 months before I did even ONE burpee. I did my first after a few months and was back to my 100+ shortly thereafter.
So, with each of my 300 burpees, I reminded myself that just because something doesn’t seem possible (or someone tells you it isn’t likely) doesn’t mean we can’t do it. My burpees are, of course, a (very) mundane example but (for me) powerful nonetheless.
Finally, I did each burpee with a commitment to having Strength for 2. For me. For you. For all of those we are committed to serving.
That’s Today’s +1.
If you feel so inspired, how about a burpee or three? 🤓
More importantly: How about a moment’s reflection on something YOU have done (big or small) that you didn’t think was possible (or that others may have told you was unlikely).
Let’s be Grateful.
Let’s dwell in the (grounded) Psychology of Possibility.
And, let’s create Strength for 2.
btw: I did the 300 burpees one set of 11 at a time—which offered an opportunity to reflect on Henry Ford’s wisdom that: “Nothing is particularly hard if you divide it into small jobs.”
