#1093 Life’s Great Question

Can You Guess What It Is?

I’m a big fan of Tom Rath and his work.

And… I’m not alone. His 10 books have sold over 10 million copies. Dan Pink (author of Drive and When) calls him “One of the most successful nonfiction writers of his generation.

We featured two of his earlier books: Eat Move Sleep and Are You Fully Charged? (Plus: His children’s book called The Rechargeables remains one of my all-time favorites.)

So…

As you can imagine, I was eagerly awaiting the arrival of his newest book: Life’s Great Question. Like his others, it’s fantastic. Super-quick reading and equally inspiring.

So…

There’s one GREAT Question that Life is asking of us.

Can you guess what it is?

Drumroll, please…

The Martin Luther King, Jr. quote that kicks off the book captures the essence of it beautifully: “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?

That’s Today’s +1.

What are you doing for others?

Or, as Tom poses the question: How are you contributing to others?

btw: The sub-title of the book is “Discover How You Contribute to the World.”

Note the present-tense of that statement.

It’s not “Discover How You CAN Contribute to the World.” It’s implicitly pointing to how you ALREADY ARE contributing. Helping us appreciate all the ways we’re ALREADY contributing is a big part of the book.

So…

One more time. Worded slightly differently…

How are you ALREADY contributing to others?

Think of ONE person in your life who you KNOW positively benefits from your presence.

Celebrate that.

Then go celebrate it some more by finding one way to contribute a little more awesome to their lives.
