As Powerful as Mindfulness and Gratitude?

We Anchor a new tiny Behavior to an existing routine and then, after rocking that tiny little habit, we Celebrate.

Today I want to chat a little more about the Celebration side of things.

BJ tells us that his distillation of behavior change into three variables via his B = MAP equation is pretty powerful but…

HE thinks THE most powerful contribution he’s making to the science of behavior design is emphasizing the importance of CELEBRATING.

In fact, he says: “Celebration will one day be ranked alongside mindfulness and gratitude as daily practices that contribute most to our overall happiness and well-being. If you learn just one thing from my entire book, I hope it’s this: Celebrate your tiny successes. This one small shift in your life can have a massive impact even when you feel there is no way up or out of your situation. Celebration can be your lifeline.”

Note: I sit up nice and straight and pay close attention any time an author says something like this: “If you learn just one thing from my entire book, I hope it’s this…”

So…

Let’s repeat that: “If you learn just one thing from my entire book, I hope it’s this: Celebrate your tiny successes. This one small shift in your life can have a massive impact even when you feel there is no way up or out of your situation. Celebration can be your lifeline.”

Why is Celebration so important?

Well, a lot of reasons. We’ll discuss some details soon. For now, know that one of the most important is that it makes us feel good.

Which goes with another one of the central themes of BJ’s work: “If there’s one concept from my book I hope you embrace, it’s this: People change best by feeling good, not by feeling bad.”
