In our last +1, we got some advice from Seneca. He encouraged us to remember that philosophy “tells all other occupations: ‘It’s not my intention to accept whatever time is leftover from you; you shall have, instead, what I reject.’ Give your whole mind to her.”
One more time: I so love that. 🤓
Today I want to talk about another Seneca gem that’s been one of my go-to’s since I first read it nearly 20 years ago.
(I can still picture myself reading his classic Letters from a Stoic on a boat in the Mediterranean off the coast of Turkey not that far from where Seneca wrote it. Sometimes I wish I kept old pictures b/c I used to have one with that book in my hands…)
Here’s the Seneca wisdom gem: “How much better to pursue a straight course and eventually reach that destination where the things that are pleasant and the things that are honorable finally become, for you, the same.”
We actually referenced that in our +1 on Blissipline way back in the day. But, it’s so good it deserves yet another mention.
So, here it is one more time: “How much better to pursue a straight course and eventually reach that destination where the things that are pleasant and the things that are honorable finally become, for you, the same.”
It isn’t very fun/”pleasurable” to do the right/”honorable” thing when we first get going with this whole Optimization process.
In fact, it can often be quite “unfun.” (And certainly looks incredibly unfun to those not interested in Optimizing, eh? 😉)
There comes a point when it’s actually REALLY (!!!) fun to do what you KNOW is the right thing.
When the things that are pleasant and the things that are honorable are, for us, the same?
Cue choir of angels celebrating you and your awesome.
THAT’s the game we’re playing.
And that’s Today’s +1.
Let’s have some fun being honorable.
