Heroes!
Michael here. 👋
Happy Sunday.
Sticking with our Energy theme for another week…
(Physiology drives psychology! It ALL starts with ENERGY!)
Couple of quick (personal!) questions:
Do you have:
- Fasting glucose of 100 mg/dL or higher
- A waistline of more than 35 inches for women and 40 inches for men
- HDL cholesterol less than 40 mg/dL for men and 50 mg/dL for women
- Blood pressure of 130/85 mmHg or higher
(If you’re not sure, perhaps it’s time for a checkup and/or bloodwork panel?!)
Why do those matter?
Casey Means, MD, tells us that if we have three or more of those traits, our cells are struggling to create Good Energy and we’re at risk for a host of chronic diseases.
And no matter where we are, there’s always room to optimize!
As Brian quotes her in this week’s new Note:
“If you remember one food principle in this book, remember that cutting the unholy trinity of these three ingredients from your diet will completely change your health and ensure you’re making room for more Good Energy foods:
1. Refined added sugar
2. Refined industrial vegetable and seed oils
3. Refined grains.”
And…
As always with this kind of thing, a GREAT way to move from theory to practice with it is to answer:
What’s the #1 thing I could START doing that might have the most positive impact?
What’s the #1 thing I could STOP doing that might have the most positive impact?
Set up the target. Knock it down.
Energize to actualize.

1. Good Energy by Casey Means, MD
This week’s new Philosopher’s Note is on Good Energy by Casey Means, MD:
“Good Energy is the goal, and the state of mind—and what it can create—is incredible . . . a world where we are eating beautiful food, moving our bodies, interacting with nature, taking pleasure in the world around us, and feeling fulfilled, vibrant, and alive. The view is exciting, because living with Good Energy means good food, happy people, real connections, and expanding into the most beautiful expression of our precious lives.
It’s true that the challenges we’re up against on the quest for upleveling our health are enormous. Yet I have seen that all of this can start to change right now. It starts when you simply ask one question: What would it feel like to have Good Energy? I invite you to ask that question now: What would it feel like to have your body functioning optimally, for your body to just be at ease enjoying this human experience, for your mind to be working clearly and creatively, and to feel that your life is established on a steady and strong source of inner power? Imagine a powerful life force from within that allows you to take on each day with pleasure, energy, gratitude, and joy. Take a moment. Really feel it. Imagine it. Let yourself.
My hope for this book is to change your life by enabling you to feel better today and prevent disease tomorrow. It all begins by understanding and acting upon the science of Good Energy.”
— Casey Means, MD from Good Energy

2. Tool: #1 Start & #1 Stop
Any time we’re feeling a little wobbly and want to get back on track, or feeling inspired about going next-level, the fastest way to do so is by using this tool.
Whether you’re implementing an insight from the Philosopher’s Note on Good Energy, or any of the other 700+ Philosopher’s Notes in the Heroic library…
Here’s how to use the #1 Start & #1 Stop tool (find it in the app here):
- #1 START: Ask yourself: What’s the #1 positive behavior that I know might be beneficial for me to start doing?
- #1 STOP: Then ask: What’s the #1 negative behavior no longer serving me that I know I need to stop doing?
- DO THOSE THINGS: Start doing the first. Stop doing the Second. Repeat!
To help with step 3, add your #1 start and #1 stop as targets in your Heroic protocol.
You might also consider framing your #1 stop as the positive behavior you’re looking to DO instead of the negative behavior you’re looking to avoid. For example, “Don’t eat refined foods” becomes “follow my nutrition philosophy.”
Have fun hitting those targets, one day at a time. 🎯🎯🎯
3. Meet the Trainer: Adam Lugsch-Tehle
Adam was a highly accomplished 38-year-old when he was struck with a wave of stress, fear, anxiety, self-doubt, and financial concerns.
He dove into the world of personal development, only to find himself on a roller coaster of short-lived highs that crashed as quickly as they rose.
That changed when Adam connected with Heroic and our mission of 51 | 2051, and he joined Coach Class IX.
Today, Adam is a Certified Heroic Coach and Level 2 Workshop Instructor. (Who has a 💯 (!!!) completion rate on leading participants through to earning certification. 🙌🙌🙌)
Adam is leaning into challenges as opportunities for growth. He lives each day with purpose, balancing deep work with deep love, stepping between stimulus and response and choosing patience and love, even in the most chaotic moments.
👏 🙌
Check out more of Adam’s inspiring story here.
And… as always, this story isn’t just about Adam. It’s about YOU!

"This (+1 #1907: The Gas Station Conversation) might be my ALL TIME favorite of @brian’s Heroic +1s.

The choices you make in the little moments… they matter.
Here’s to doing the work to move from theory to practice to mastery in our own lives so that we can activate our Heroic potential… BEING the change we wish to see in the world and creating a flourishing world together.
Day 1."
If you haven’t yet, DEFINITELY check that one out!
