#394 Start Again

And Again and Again and Again…

In our last +1, we talked about the renowned Vipassana meditation teacher S.N. Goenka and his mantra: “Work diligently. Diligently. Work patiently and persistently. Patiently and persistently. And you’re bound to be successful. Bound to be successful.”

Goenka had another mantra that’s worth chatting about: “Start again.”

As in, when our mind (INEVITABLY) wanders during our meditation practice (and everything else we do), just start again.

Bring your attention back to your point of focus.

Again.

And again.

And again.

To recap: Mind wander? Start again.

Mind wander? Start again.

Mind wander? Start again.

No need to get all up in your stuff and psychoanalyze why your mind is wandering. Just say, as another mindfulness expert Herbert Benson tells us, “Oh, well.” And, start again.

Today’s +1.

If (or, should I say, “When”?) you find yourself wandering a bit today, just start again.

And again.

And again.
