#294 Newton's First Law

As Applied to Your Life

A few +1s ago, we briefly mentioned Newton’s First Law of Motion. Let’s talk about it a little more.

First, Isaac Newton. Born in 1642. The man was an intellectual giant. One of the greatest mathematicians and physicists and scientists in history. Among many other things, he locked himself in his house and didn’t come out until he’d invented calculus. (Hah.)

So…

Here’s Newton’s First Law of Motion: “An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by some outside force.”

That’s also known as the law of inertia or the law of momentum.

Let’s apply it to our lives.

You will tend to stay at rest munching on those Cheetos on your couch unless you take a little bit of action. BUT… The moment you take a little bit of action, you will tend to STAY in motion.

This is why “Just getting started!” is so powerful. It’s why we want to focus on the next Micro W.I.N. And make progress. And simplify the battlefield. And do one pushup rather than worry about working out for an hour. Or focus on writing one sentence of our would-be novel rather than worry about completing the whole thing.

An object in motion stays in motion.

So…

Get yourself in motion!!

Today’s +1. What’s one part of your life where you find yourself consistently not in motion?

What’s the tiniest little thing you can do to get yourself in motion?

Go do that.

(Now’s a good time!)
